Is AION 2 Worth Playing? The Answer Splits By Player Type
Reviews agree on the visuals and progression pacing, and agree on the mobile-feel UI, repetitive endgame and simplified combat. Global is untested.

One line: the strengths are solid, the weaknesses are consistent, and the verdict depends on what kind of player you are.
Praised almost universally: the visuals, the seamless open world, and the pace of character progression.
Criticised almost universally: a UI that feels like a mobile game, repetitive endgame content, and combat simplified by macros and hold-to-chain skills.
A creator who plays the Korea and Taiwan service offers a practical split: players who like fast, PvE-led Korean MMOs will rate it above average; players who prefer slower or western MMOs will rate it below average.
And one thing needs stating plainly: nobody has tested the global build yet.
The three strengths
Visuals and the seamless world. IGN’s July 2026 hands-on called it “an absolutely gorgeous video game” and specifically noted the lack of loading screens. A long-term player put it more concretely: he does not think any real MMORPG on the market right now looks this good while performing to this degree - and he emphasises it does that while keeping a seamless, channelless shared open world.
The pacing of character progression. The creator argues this is the real hook. His framing: in most Korean MMOs you eventually spend days or weeks grinding for one meaningful upgrade; in AION 2 you play daily and get stronger daily. He credits relatively restrained diminishing returns.
Breadth of content and systems. NC cites over 200 dungeons and over 200 character customisation options, plus large numbers of outfits, mounts and wings. The creator’s verdict: the content menu is large and almost none of it wastes your time.
The three weaknesses
UI and UX. The most frequently raised point. The creator scored it 4 out of 10 and called it the single biggest reason the game still gets described as a mobile game. He singles out party and dungeon-group menus as genuinely poor, while acknowledging NC has been improving them since launch.
One caveat: this creator also says NC claimed during Korean livestreams around launch that a separate PC-specific UI was in development, and that it never appeared. That claim has a single creator source and no matching official notice was found, so treat it as a creator statement.
Endgame repetition. The creator scored endgame 6.5. His reason is the problem every PvE theme-park MMO hits: the same daily loop. He credits AION 2 with softening it through a ladder structure - each bracket introduces new fights with better rewards and keeps players grouped with others at a similar power level - but the repetition itself never disappears.
Simplified combat. The creator scored combat 6.8. His reasoning is specific: the game ships a macro system where holding one key chains several skills, which caps the execution ceiling. “You can hold one or two buttons to deal essentially all of your damage,” which is why, as a reviewer, he cannot go above 7. He also acknowledges the feel, sound design and animation are good, and that the simplification is partly necessary - because the pacing is extremely fast.
By player type
| If you are this kind of player | Take | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Likes fast, dungeon-led Korean MMOs | Worth watching | Content volume and progression pacing are its strongest features |
| Cares about visuals and character creation | Worth watching | Visuals are called best-in-class and the creator has 200+ options |
| Here mainly for PvP | Wait | Asia-service open-world PvP is criticised as gear-driven; global is unverified |
| Low tolerance for mobile-style UI | Try before deciding | The UI is the one repeated criticism that is hard to fix quickly |
| Needs one activity to be best-in-class | Wait | The creator says content is consistently good rather than exceptional |
| Prefers slow, old-school or western MMOs | Probably not for you | The creator believes these players will rate it below average |
Nobody has tested the global build
This deserves its own section.
Every strength and weakness above comes from the Korea and Taiwan service. The global build is a separately constructed service and NC has published no parity list.
The IGN preview needs reading correctly too. It is a July 2026 hands-on impression, and the author states plainly that he did not play it himself - he sat in on a demo with several members of the development team. It is media hands-on, not a full review, and carries no score.
The sub-scores in the creator video (gameplay 8.5, combat 6.8, progression 7.5, UI 4.0, endgame 6.5, total 7.2) are his personal rubric, and he explicitly excludes monetization from them. They are not an aggregate industry score, and should not be reported as “AION 2 scored 7.2”.
The ten-hour self-test
More useful than trusting anyone’s score is spending ten hours on it yourself.
- Hours 1-2: check two things only. Can you live with the UI? Do you actively want to look at that world again?
- Hours 3-6: run your first dungeon. Judge combat rhythm in a group, and do it with a random group, because that is your real environment most of the time.
- Hours 7-10: run a daily loop. Do a full pass of daily and weekly content, then ask whether you want to log in tomorrow.
- After ten hours: if you still want to log in, then consider a pack or a membership.
The game is free to play, so the test costs nothing. Paying is a separate question - see the membership and monetization breakdown.
