AION 2 Chanter: A Support That Deals Real Damage
Chanter is the staff support class. Undefeated Mantra buffs the whole party, and on a correct build its own damage lands close to a damage class.

Chanter is a support class that can carry its own damage. It uses a staff, buffs the group and off-heals, and a correct build pushes its output close to a dedicated damage class.
It is the only melee-and-ranged hybrid in AION 2’s eight-class roster. In practice you play it as a melee.
What Chanter is
The official Korean class guide lists eight classes, and Chanter (호법성) is one of them. Its main weapon is the staff. Both factions can play it.
Three things define the class.
- Undefeated Mantra is the group buff that makes people want you.
- Recuperation is the heal you actually keep.
- Dark Crush is the skill that carries your damage.
Chanter is not a second Cleric. It heals less and buffs harder, and that difference decides who gets the party slot.
How Chanter actually plays
Roughly 80% of your damage comes from three skills, and over 60% comes from just two. Dark Crush alone is about 30%.
- Dark Crush is a two-part ranged skill. Its second hit, Piercing Strike, has no cooldown but needs a ranged skill to start it.
- So you weave Spinning Strike, Maroton’s Wrath and Impactful Crush to keep that window open.
- In melee range, Spinning Strike and the basic Onslaught chain cover the rest.
Onslaught cuts Spinning Strike’s cooldown by one second per hit. Put the three keys into a macro and the whole thing fires itself.
Why parties want a Chanter
Chanter sits next to Cleric on the support line, but it answers a different question.
- Undefeated Mantra gives the group its damage buff. It does not stack with Cleric’s Light of Protection, and the Chanter version takes precedence.
- For healing you have Recuperation, plus Protection Circle for mitigation and Sprint Mantra for movement and light heals.
- The stigma heal, Healing Touch, is usually skipped because other stigmas matter more.
- Every heal and buff is a 40-metre AoE. You never have to click a target.
The trade is clear. Cleric heals more; Chanter buffs more and hits harder. Harder content, like a new raid, still wants the Cleric. In endgame runs where the group already out-gears the dungeon, a Chanter adds more total damage.
How it performs
Creator testing from the Korea and Taiwan service puts Chanter close to damage classes on a one-minute dummy parse. In live dungeons, more than one Chanter has kept pace with the damage dealers without a combat-power lead.
Two caveats matter here.
- Balance changes weekly on the Asian service. Numbers move both ways.
- Templar and Chanter were the first two classes NC reworked, and their damage cycles now look similar.
Global launch on October 5, 2026 will rerun every class on new numbers. Treat the data above as a direction, not a promise.
Early build: where the points go first
At level 45, right after the levelling run, you have roughly 240 to 250 skill points. Creator builds for this exact stage agree on the shape.
- Mana is the first problem. Take the mana restore on Inexorable Blow before anything else.
- Dark Crush gets maxed and tagged for critical hits.
- Recuperation gets maxed, with two casts and a debuff removal.
- Spinning Strike gets the cooldown cut, so it comes back sooner.
- Ghast Rampage and Raging Spell only matter against bosses. Skip them while you quest.
On stigmas, movement speed comes first. Undefeated Mantra is the first skill worth pushing high, and Freshen Blow at plus five is there purely for its cooldown.
Who should play it
Pick Chanter if you want a support slot that still respects your damage. You get invited for the buff, and you get to play the fight.
Skip it if you want the biggest healing numbers. That is Cleric’s job, and it will always win that comparison.
If you are choosing between the two, the Cleric page covers the healer’s side, and the full class list shows the other seven.
