Can You Play AION 2 on Mac or Steam Deck?

The global version is Windows PC only, through Steam and PURPLE. Mac, Steam Deck and other non-Windows devices have no official support.

No.

NC’s wording is that the global version is “currently being developed exclusively for PC platforms,” and the entry points are Steam and the PURPLE launcher.

macOS and Steam Deck are outside official support. No compatibility plan for either platform, or for SteamOS generally, has ever been announced.

That comes from the official pre-release FAQ, not from inference. The related questions people mix in are answered below.

What is officially supported

ItemOfficial status
PlatformPC (Windows), through Steam and PURPLE
MobileThe global version is not coming to mobile - NC’s wording is “exclusively for PC platforms”
ConsolesA PS5 version is still in development but is not part of this launch. Progress is on the console page
ControllerPlayable, but NC is still evaluating whether full support is in launch scope
LanguagesEnglish, French, German, Spanish (Spain), Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Japanese, Korean
Launch server regionsNorth America, South America, Europe, Japan

Watch the last two rows in particular. “Which languages” and “where the servers are” get read as “which platforms I can play on,” and they are not the same thing.

Why Mac and Steam Deck are not on the list

Mac. NC says PC. In this FAQ, PC means Windows: the Steam store page lists Windows system requirements and no macOS row.

Steam Deck. It runs SteamOS. Being able to install Steam and see the game in your library does not mean the game supports the device. A publisher has to build for Linux/SteamOS or publish an explicit compatibility rating. NC has said nothing, and Steam has not published a Deck rating for this game.

A test client running is not the same as retail support. The Launch Scale Test used a separate playtest client. That is a different install from the client that goes live on October 5. Reading retail support out of test-week performance is an unverified claim.

What to check before you buy

Read the system requirements on the store page, not whether the store page opens. What is listed is Windows requirements. If macOS is not listed, treat it as unsupported.

Watch the official FAQ for platform additions. NC updated it twice before launch. The most recent version is the one that counts.

For a non-Windows device, wait for post-launch testing. Nobody outside NC has run the retail client yet, so every “it works” or “it does not” story so far is about the test build.

What players are trying (unverified)

Three approaches show up in the community. All of them are player attempts, none is confirmed by NC, and this page does not present them as working options: running the Windows version through a compatibility layer or a second partition on Mac; Proton on Steam Deck; and cloud streaming.

Each carries its own preconditions - whether anti-cheat allows it, whether performance holds, latency, and account risk - and none can be checked before launch.

If you want to know whether your Windows machine is enough, see system requirements. To get installation and region sorted before launch, see Steam or PURPLE.

Region matters more than it looks: high latency wrecks dodge and animation-cancel timing. That also feeds into choosing a class.
