AION 2 Sorcerer or Spiritmaster: Which Caster to Main
Pick Sorcerer to position and burst, or Spiritmaster to sustain pets while moving. Both are ranged magic, but they ask opposite decisions of you.

One line: pick Sorcerer if you want to position and then burst. Pick Spiritmaster if you want to keep pets running while you move.
Both are ranged magic classes, and they play nothing alike.
Sorcerer’s main weapon is the spellbook. The official Korean class guide describes 마도성 as “폭발적인 마법 화력을 자랑하는” - built around explosive magic firepower.
Spiritmaster’s main weapon is the orb. Its core is summoning spirits and grinding out sustained damage.
There is no trustworthy global damage ranking right now. So this choice comes down to feel.
Side by side
| Item | Sorcerer | Spiritmaster |
|---|---|---|
| Korean name | 마도성 | 정령성 |
| Main weapon | Spellbook | Orb |
| Official description | Built around explosive magic firepower | Summons spirits for unconventional combat |
| Playstyle core | Find position, layer control, land the burst window | Keep pets alive, keep moving, keep chipping |
| Decision under pressure | “Can I hold this ground?” | “Is my pet up, and should I switch target?” |
Both official descriptions are in the Korean class guide and can be read in the original. But skill kits, Stigma builds and numbers have never been published for the global build. So the table describes roles, not loadouts.
Both are mages, but they ask different questions
A creator testing Sorcerer gave a useful contrast.
He compared it to Assassin and said Sorcerer’s pace is noticeably slower, “in a good way”. Assassin constantly demands something from your hands: close the gap, find the back, watch the chain, chase the target. Sorcerer can deal damage from a comfortable distance with strong damage and control.
That is exactly the fork between the two casters.
Sorcerer’s core problem is positioning. You need to find your spot before the front line reaches you, spread control, then land the burst.
Spiritmaster’s core problem is maintenance. Pets and sustained damage mean you keep rebuilding your setup while moving. Its forgiveness comes from not being worn down, not from killing things in one window.
Say both questions out loud and you will know which one you would rather answer.
Why there is no DPS ranking here
The global build has no verifiable ranking.
In his class guide the creator states it plainly: “we don’t know what the meta will look like in our version,” and NC keeps rebalancing. Core identities hold roughly steady; relative strength does not.
The tier lists going around are sampled from the live Korea and Taiwan build. The global build is a separately constructed service and NC has published no parity list. Publishing a ranking that may expire on launch day helps nobody.
Two or three days will answer it
If you can get into the test or early access, this is a two- or three-day decision.
- Level both into one entry dungeon. Not to cap - just enough to enter.
- Ask two questions inside the dungeon. First: do I prefer finding position and bursting, or moving and maintaining a pet? Second: when the group wipes, do I blame my positioning? The second one is usually more honest.
- Judge it in a messy group. With a coordinated group both classes feel fine. With a random group the difference in forgiveness shows up. And most of your time will be spent with random groups.
Three things to know before committing
- One main weapon. Changing weapon means changing class. There is no generic “mage” fallback.
- Rerolling is expensive. A new character and a fresh levelling run, not a free respec.
- Roster and numbers are unsettled. NC has published no global class page, and skills and balance will keep moving after launch.
The full roster is on the class list. How combat and targeting actually work is on the gameplay overview. What casters are asked to do in dungeons is on dungeons and PvE.
